Replenishment

How should FBA replenishment frequency be estimated?

Replenishment frequency is the result of demand, lead time and safety stock—not a universal weekly or monthly rule.

SHORT ANSWER

A basic reorder point is average daily sales multiplied by total lead time, plus safety stock. Replace every parameter with your own operating data.

01

Prepare the operating data

A replenishment plan needs demand, available stock, in-transit stock and lead-time data—not intuition alone.

  • Average daily sales and variation over 7, 30 and 90 days
  • FBA available, reserved and inbound quantities
  • Warehouse handling, transport and FBA receiving lead time
  • Safety stock for promotions, holidays and receiving exceptions
02

Use a reorder point

For example, with 10 units of daily demand, seven days of total lead time and 30 units of safety stock, the reorder point is 100 units. That triggers a review; it is not automatically the shipment quantity.

  • Reorder point = daily demand × total lead time + safety stock
  • Target stock = target days of cover × daily demand
  • Suggested quantity = target stock − FBA available − valid inbound
  • Use separate parameters for launches, promotions and volatile items
03

Connect to warehouse execution

With buffer stock in Japan, replenishment can be released in batches. Before dispatch, confirm cartons, labels, appointments, in-transit quantities and Amazon receiving conditions.

  • Use a fixed review day, not a fixed shipment quantity
  • FIFO by inbound batch helps control inventory age
  • Verify in-transit stock before releasing another shipment
  • Recalculate when Amazon rules or capacity conditions change
ACTION CHECKLIST

Prepare these five inputs first.

  1. 01Average daily sales and variation
  2. 02Total lead time
  3. 03Safety stock
  4. 04Target days of cover
  5. 05Valid inbound quantity
